Age of Mythology for Xbox?
Posted by PaPaya on July 02nd, 2008 @ 11:52 a.m.
VideoGamer.com recently posted a short article about how ES is making a RTS for the Xbox. While this newsitem relates to Halo Wars, and not AoM, I found something interesting in the middle of the article.
[Bruce Shelley] said: "I may have mentioned many blogs ago that we reprogrammed Age of Mythology to be playable with an Xbox controller as a proof of concept. Designer/programmer Tim Deen got to the point that he could play AoM better with the controller than the mouse/keyboard.
Give... me... now! How do you think AoM would take off as a console game if it were to be made one? Post your comments in this thread!

*REPOSTED FOR REACH*

This month I have chosen someone who is set for great sucess. Not just at AoMH, but all over the HG network. Not only has he been promoted to a cherub, he is an allround great guy. This month, Member of the month goes to Roxas.
Out Reach: SO OMG! You’re a cherub at Spore Heaven! Like how did that happen?

Roxas: TBH, I didn’t know HG even had a section for spore and when I went over there I totally had no idea what Spore was. I had heard of the game, but didn’t realise it was called Spore. I got to know the game, and when the topic for modship came up, I sent in my response. It was really at SpH that I got to know Alex really well. And well, if you see our posts there, you can see how our relationship has progressed.

Scenario Design Competition Reminder
Posted by Yeebaagooon on June 09th, 2008 @ 11:43 a.m.
A reminder to everyone that our competition's deadline of the 21st is looming over us, and it is very unlikely that the deadline will change.

I urge all of you entering to try and finish your map, fix the bugs and then email it to aomh_boss_battle_competition_2008@hotmail.com.

You can send in your entries until the 28th, but each day after the 21st, you will get a 2 point penalty on your map.

We will not judge anything that is submitted after the 28th, so make sure you get it in on time!
Age of Mythology Coming to DS!
Posted by PaPaya on June 04th, 2008 @ 10:01 p.m.

It wasn't enough that Age of Mythology sold over a million copies. Now THQ aims to bring the popular rts to the Nintendo DS.

Gameplay is set to feature the factions from the original Age of Mythology -the Greeks, Norse, and Egyptians- while also incorporating traditional mythical heroes. Multiplayer capabilities are also said to be in the works. While it's hard to imagine the popular rts game in a turn-based setting, the 2006 port of Age of Kings to the DS generally received positive reviews. The same developer, Blackbone, is being used.

You can read the original press release here. Be sure to check out Game Trailers for some in-game footage as well as Brucce Shelly's thoughts of Mythologies in his blog.

Member Of The Month: May 2008

This month I have chosen someone who is very active and continually churning out maps. Give a big cheer for: Dope!
Yeebaagooon: Hello Dope, and welcome to this interview. First off, most people would know you for your age of heroes series and other maps like hypo hype and crazy water adventures. What do you think your greatest achievement in scenario design has been?
Dope: Well my greatest achievement was Age Of Heroes Arkantos. It has about 700 downloads and it was my first map ever. At first I only wanted to make six maps with five of them being RPG scenarios and then all the heroes would get together and destroy something evil. But as my skills have advanced I've decided to make a full campaign and it'll be released in a week or so because of playtesting. Other scenarios were those moment of inspiration when you feel something inside and then you open the editor and make your vision come true.

Poll: Forum Parties
Posted by Yeebaagooon on May 27th, 2008 @ 05:33 a.m.
After a discussion with a few people, I think it is best to open the forum party decision to everyone. Without a decent theme these forum parties will fail.

I also wish to move these forum parties to a Saturday, because we people east of America have to get up early tomorrow (for the dreaded school) and a forum party late at night is the last thing our tyrannical parents want.

So, in short please vote for one of the options that I have provided to try and make these forum parties successful. Forum parties will be held in the middle of each month.

The choices:

  • Supremacy
  • Race
  • RPG
  • Escape
  • Supremacy style map (Riv Civ, Zelda etc.)
  • Minigames (The big scenarios with lots of minigame sin them)
  • Minigames (Small maps with a short minigame in them).
  • Blood.
  • Survival.
  • Defensive (Defend the Castle etc.).
  • Mythodea.
  • Gladiatorial.
  • Tower Defence.
  • Mutation.
  • Sims.
  • Maze.
  • Miscellaneous.
  • No theme - everyone goes on and plays what they want.
  • No forum parties.

I know I've missed some genres out, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I will announce the results on the 7th of June.
  • Tom vs. Bruce #10: Age of Mythology
    Posted by PaPaya on May 20th, 2008 @ 5:37 p.m.
1up.com's featured article today, surprisingly, is about Age of Mythology! To be more specific, a war story from two RTS 'pros.' Although it was originally published a few years ago (2004), I found it an interesting read (I dunno, I guess I'm entertained easily). Below is an excerpt:
    Tom 40:35
Now, Bruce is pouring infantry and Automatons towards the northern gold deposits. Time to hit him from the south with my Wonder-breaking team of Behemoths and Arcuses equipped with the building-razing Burning Pitch improvement.

    Tom 44:10
Bruce keeps attacking around the gold to the north. I've got the strategic advantage, but I can't keep up with his military prodding. If he takes this area for long, it opens up new gold for him. Time to break this stalemate. I spend everything to start researching a Titan.

    Bruce 46:02
I finally manage to clear out Tom's barracks, but just barely.

    Tom 46:37
Bruce's base is pinched between two town centers that are holding him like tongs. Now, for the judicious application of a Titan! I lay down the medallion and start building.
